MOQ Explained for Custom Motorcycle Gear

MOQ (minimum order quantity) is the smallest bulk run a factory will produce per style. At Moto Armor it is 50 units per style, or 10 units for one-piece leather race suits, after you approve a paid sample. Sizes can be split within that quantity; extra colourways are agreed on the quote.

Why factories set an MOQ

Every new style has fixed setup work: pattern grading across sizes, cutting markers, sourcing leather and trims, setting up branding and training the line. MOQ spreads that cost across enough pieces to keep the unit price sensible. Below it, the unit cost rises steeply.

Samples start from USD 189 before freight and take about 12–18 days. Bulk takes about 30–45 days after written approval.

Per style, per colour or per size?

  • Per style: MOQ counts one design (one pattern). This is how we quote.
  • Sizes: you can split the MOQ across your size run, for example 50 jackets as S–XXL.
  • Colourways: a second colourway of the same pattern usually needs its own minimum or a surcharge because leather, thread and trims change. We confirm this on the quote.
  • Branding variations: changing only a logo or label is normally fine within one style.

How to start small without breaking MOQ

  1. Order a paid sample to test fit, materials and branding before you commit.
  2. Start with one hero style, such as a one-piece race suit at 10 units.
  3. Keep one colourway for the first run and add colours on reorder.
  4. Use a tight size run based on your market (EU 48–56 covers most adult race-suit buyers).

What a quote should state

Ask any factory to put these in writing: MOQ per style, how colours and sizes count, sample fee and whether it is credited, unit price at your quantity, lead time, payment terms and Incoterm. Moto Armor's written quote covers each of these before you pay for a sample.
